How do you design a digital experience for an audacious, avant-garde artist who breaks all the rules? Craig Hansen of Studio Principle and I sat with this question. And we came to a rather uncomfortable conclusion. Break all the user interface and experience design rules we held to be sacrosanct.
The website became a canvas of unconventional design choices. Each gallery adopts a distinct interaction style — some mimic carousels, others operate like slide shows, and a few even unfold like garage doors. And we angered the gods of typography with our serif and sanserif font combinations.

At the beginning of this project, Jared told us he needed a digital presence, but he couldn’t imagine a screen as a viable medium for his art. Yet, through this website, we've not only presented his art — we've translated its experiential essence into a digital experience.
